Happy Halloween!!!

Sorry for the long wait between posts I have been super busy at school and at home. First I will go over what we have done at school then let you all know what I have been up to in my life.

SCHOOL:

The artist of the month way Wayne Thiebaud.
Kindergarten: Kindergarten started with a warm up project where I wrote their name then they glued little squares to the letters of their name. This got them used to school and following directions. Second we made some torn paper owls. After that we did stations for a few weeks so I could paint with them one on one.

First grade's next project was symmetry bugs we used liquid watercolors and I fell in love with them. The colors are not the ordinary color you see in paint and they came out so vivid. Students could make beetles or bugs.

After that we had a fun making spiders using watercolor and oil pastel for a resist.

Then we tried blending oil pastel to make pumpkins that were shaded.

2nd Grade: After our warm and cool color sunsets we learned about a famous artist named Laurel Burch and made our own patterned cats. It's amazing how we draw them all together yet they all turn out so differently. Then we talked about landscapes learned what foreground, middle ground and background where pictures of those will come later.

3rd Grade: Learned about famous artist Romero Britto then create Britto hearts using a variety of patterns.

4th Grade: Learned about metal embossing but made them in a more cost effective and creative way using yarn, tagboard, and tin foil. Then students learn about day of the dead and made their own sugar skulls and using scratch board.

I also had time during parent teacher conferences last week to start setting up my inspiration station for my future TAB room. It is still a work in progress.

In my life this month I went to the apple orchard with a bunch of friends that was fun. Mr. Crocker and I carved pumpkins along with a friend of ours.

September 17th

Sorry for the long wait!  Between school and life I have been pretty busy. I have some display photos of my students' art as well as some DIY potion bottles I made. Hope you enjoy.

This was my first project for 2nd grade. They learned about warm and cool colors and then all together we drew sunsets. They traced them with sharpies and then colored them with water color crayons. Finally, they used water and to create water color paintings. What is your favorite color project?

So this was suppose to turn out like . I am sure you have seen something like this on Pinterest. Well I put my own spin on it they had to tell me about themselves using only images and a few words. If I do this again I really need to over emphasize the curved line so when they come together they make better circles. Here are some close ups.

First grade started with a review of different types of lines then they had to draw 5 different types of lines and trace with sharpies. They had the challenge of coloring each shape they made with different colors. We also talked about how to color,  making sure to use bumpers and go in one directions. What is your favorite thing to do with 1st grade?

Finally my DIY I made my own halloween potion bottles. The green one and the tall black one were from Michael's. They were 70% off and one was blue and one was white with this kind if matte texture to them. I hand painted them with black and green then took gold and dry brushed it on with a sponge. The labels were from some blog on Pinterest. Sorry I don't remember where I found them. The other bottle was from an old peanut butter container and I did the same to that then used silver instead of gold but I think was a little to heavy handed with the silver. Overall I love them I am hoping to make more.

Talk to you soon!!!

August 27

Hello everyone! I survived the first full week of school.  As you would expect I don't have any artwork to post this week. So instead, I thought I would upload some pictures of my classroom.

Students earn paint points for good behavior. When they fill their palette they get a party.

As we learn new concepts and vocabulary I add them to the board.

On my tables I have name plates that are made from the corner pieces you put on palettes to protect them from damage.  Then I painted them with chalk board paint. At each table there is a bucket with chalk and pieces of fabric for erasing.

My sliding dry erase board I LOVE THEM!!!! I have one for each class and then 3rd &4th share a board.

On the first day of school I teach my students to "Show me the Mona Lisa." Students sit up straight hands in their laps mouth closed and eyes on the teacher.

Outside my room I write a quote of the week.

My door is decorated with tons of dots from old dot projects.
